care to learn

Young people are important.

My work in education and facilitation broadly spans empowering the voices and thoughts of young people, with a particular focus on building caring and equitable relationships.

I aim to provide meaningful support and experiences to young people that foster imagination, creativity, criticality, wonder, collaboration, and autonomy.

Currently I work as a high school teacher, whilst also facilitating youth art programs, and working within the youth advocacy and policy space, particularly relating to LGBTQIA+ youth and environmental justice. My previous work has included running bush kinders, kitchen/garden programs, collaborative arts programs, peer supports, student enterprises, and a range of different experiential learning programs.

So much attention is given to a limited set of intelligences, thought processes, and ways of being, which often creates structures that enforce conformity and foster ideas of dominance and supremacy. It is particularly important to me to build inclusive and accepting educational environments that challenge these structures and go beyond implementing curricula, instead aiming nurture the whole person, their community, and their environment.

Education should dismantle borders, break down oppression, bring us closer to one another and the non-human world. It should also be playful.

Somewhere along the line we seem to have lost some of the joy in the process of learning. Learning and growing should be joyous. It should support many ways of learning, seeing, feeling, and doing. After-all, the origins of the word "school" does stem from greek word for "leisure".

If you're interested in working together, or have questions, or just simply want to get in touch, drop me a line.
I would love to hear from you.
